COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a back-and-forth Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal battle, No. 20 Ohio State fell to second-ranked and second-seeded Maryland, 5-3, on a sun soaked day at Buckeye Varsity Field. The Buckeyes are 11-8 on the season while Maryland improves to 17-2.
The Short Story
The Buckeyes tied the game twice – once in the second quarter and then again in the third quarter – but allowed three fourth-quarter Terrapin goals. The Buckeye goal scorers with Hallie Brost and Sarah Charley.
In goal, Abby Danson stood tall with seven saves. Her counterpart, Christina Calandra, stopped five shots, including a key penalty corner opportunity for the Buckeyes in a one-goal game in the fourth quarter.
Ohio State won to key stat categories – total shots and corners. The Buckeyes outshot the Terrapins 18-16 and had nine corners (to Maryland’s eight).

The Big Ten Tournament continues tomorrow in Columbus with two semifinal games. Top-seeded Penn State faces fourth-seeded Michigan beginning at 1:30 p.m. Following that game, No. 2 Maryland meets the winner on this evening’s game between third-seeded Northwestern and sixth-seeded Rutgers at 4 p.m.
