COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men’s tennis has had a great fall already and they will look to cap it this weekend at the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, Calif. Action gets underway this Thursday and runs through Championship Sunday.

Both the singles and doubles draws will feature 32 players/teams who have qualified in various forms for the fall’s final event. The Buckeyes will have three participants in the singles event and two teams in the doubles event, both are the most of any school in the country.

  • A total of five Buckeyes will be competing this weekend — Justin Boulais, Robert Cash, JJ Tracy, James Trotter and Matej Vocel.
  • The last time the tournament was held in 2019, Robert Cash and John McNally made a run to the doubles championship match before finishing runner-up. Ohio State has three ITA Doubles National titles — Chase Buchanan and Blaz Rola in 2011 and Scott Green and Ross Wilson in 2004 and 2005.
  • In singles, Jeremy Wurtzman won the program’s first title in 2003 while Bryan Koniecko followed with a title in 2008. Mikael Torpegaard was runner-up in 2016 and current associate head coach Justin Kronauge was runner-up in 2008.
  • Ohio State is coming off another dominant weekend at the ITA Midwest Regionals. James Trotter and JJ Tracy played in an all-Buckeye singles final while Robert Cash and Justin Boulais finished runner-up in the doubles event.
  • Trotter became the 11th Buckeye to claim an ITA Midwest Regional singles crown.
  • This was the second Midwest Regional in a row which has featured an all-Buckeye final as John McNally defeated teammate Kyle Seelig in the 2019 final.
  • The Buckeyes had a great showing at the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Okla. Matej Vocel went a combined 13-1 over the seven days, winning the consolation singles title and then teamed with Robert Cash to claim the main draw doubles crown.
  • It was an all-Buckeye doubles final in Tulsa as Vocel and Cash played James Trotter and Justin Boulais in the title match. The two teams combined to win six matches over ranked teams.
  • JJ Tracy has had a solid fall season. He is 13-3 overall and has reached the quarterfinals of the ITA All-American Championship and the finals of the ITA Midwest Regional.
  • Cash went a perfect 6-0 on the opening weekend of the fall at the Southern Intercollegiates in Athens, Ga.
  • Andrew Lutschaunig and James Trotter had an impressive run through the doubles draw of the ATP Tennis Ohio Championship, making the final and finishing runner-up.
  • Ohio State has five players in the ITA singles and doubles rankings to start the season. Transfer Matej Vocel leads the way in the singles rankings at No. 20. Junior Cannon Kingsley checks in at No. 65 while James Trotter is No. 87 and JJ Tracy is No. 99.
  • The doubles team of Vocel and Robert Cash begin the season ranked No. 40.
