COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s 2012 football award winners have been selected by the members of the Ohio State coaching staff. A total of 11 awards were determined with senior defensive end, two-time captain and Big Ten defensive player and lineman of the year John Simon claiming the team award as the Most Valuable Player.

Simon was also awarded, for the second consecutive year, the Bill Willis outstanding defensive player award. The sports and leisure studies major, who is on track to graduate this semester, was also given the team’s John Galbreath academic award.
Three more outstanding players were repeat winners of awards they won in 2011: sophomore quarterback Braxton Miller, fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting and the Big Ten’s offensive player and quarterback of the year, won the Archie Griffin outstanding offensive player of the year award; junior receiver Corey Brown was the recipient of the Paul Warfield outstanding receiver award; and junior tackle Johnathan Hankins earned the Jack Stephenson outstanding defensive lineman award.
Awards for outstanding contributions to the team’s 12-0 season also went to:
- Junior RB Carlos Hyde – Rex Kern outstanding offensive back;
- Junior WR Corey Brown – Ike Kelley outstanding special teams;
- Junior OT Jack Mewhort – Jim Parker outstanding offensive lineman (shared);
- Junior OG Andrew Norwell – Jim Parker outstanding offensive lineman (shared);
- Sophomore LB Ryan Shazier – Randy Gradishar outstanding linebacker; and
- Sophomore CB Bradley Roby – Arnie Chonko outstanding defensive back award.
