COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophie Jaques of the Ohio State women’s hockey team has been named to the 2021-22 Academic All-District Women’s At-Large First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced Thursday.
Jaques, the WCHA’s Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year for the 2021-22 season, is a three-time WCHA All-Academic team honoree and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. As a result of achieving record-breaking numbers during her senior season alongside achieving excellence in the classroom, she was selected as the 2022 Arthur Ashe Jr. Female Sport Scholar of the Year.
The Toronto, Ontario native led the Buckeyes with an Ohio State defenseman record 59 points this year for the second-most single season points by a true defenseman in NCAA history. She propelled the Buckeyes to their second WCHA Final Faceoff title, scoring both the game-tying and game-winning goal in the championship game against Minnesota. Finishing the season with 11 power play goals, 44 blocked shots and a +51 on ice, Jaques was an invaluable part of Ohio State’s national championship season.
A 2022 Ohio State graduate with a degree in civil engineering, Jaques will continue her academic and athletic career at Ohio State next year as she pursues a graduate degree in civil engineering.
