COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team will compete in the Covelli Center for the first time this season when it hosts No. 17 Michigan State and No. 20 Illinois on Sunday at 4 p.m. in a tri-meet. The competition will air live on the Big Ten Network.

LAST TIME OUT
Ohio State (1-3, 1-2 Big Ten) finished second at a tri-meet with Michigan State and Nebraska last Saturday with a team score of 195.325. As a team, Ohio State claimed the vault title with a 48.975, which tied its season high. Five Buckeyes won shares of three event titles. Elexis Edwards and Sydney Jennings earned a share of the vault crown with scores of 9.825 while Colby Miller and Jenna Swartzentruber shared the bars title with a pair of 9.850s. Alexis Hankins tied for first on floor behind a 9.875.
SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE
The Spartans tallied a 195.775, the highest season-opening score in program history, to top the Buckeyes and Cornhuskers. Baleigh Garcia was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday after winning the all-around with a 39.300 and capturing the beam title with a 9.900. The Spartans rank 10th on beam (49.025) and 11th on floor (49.125) nationally.
LOOKING AT ILLINOIS
The Illini (3-1) were originally scheduled to host Michigan this Saturday, but the meet was postponed due to Michigan’s pause on athletics. Illinois is coming off its first loss of the season, a 196.325-195.600 decision to Iowa. The 195.600 was a season high for Illinois, which had four gymnasts earn titles on three events. The Illini check in the national rankings at No. 11 on beam with a 49.000 and No. 12 on floor behind a 49.117.
Nationally, Ohio State ranks 15th on beam (48.925) and 16th on vault (48.958).
The Buckeyes hit the road to take on Rutgers on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m.
