LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Rising sophomores Malik Heinselman and Sammy Sasso both punched their tickets to the 2019 Junior World Team Trials (May 17-18 in Raleigh, N.C.) by winning individual titles at the UWW Junior Freestyle National Championships (Apr. 25-27 in Las Vegas). Gavin Hoffman will join his classmates in Raleigh after qualifying for Junior World Team Trials Challenge Tournament by placing fourth at 86 kilograms.

Junior Freestyle National Championships title holders (i.e. – Heinselman, Sasso) go straight to best-of-three-bouts finals versus the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament champions. That series winner earns the right to represent Team USA in the UWW Junior World Championships Aug. 12-18 in Tallinn, Estonia.

Heinselman (57 kg) went 5-0 with four tech falls while Sasso (70 kg) posted a 6-0 mark which included two pins and two tech falls. Hoffman won four of his six bouts, a pair by tech fall. Jaden Mattox (74 kg) was a four-time winner as well, coming up just one shy of also earning a spot at the Junior World Team Trials.

Incoming freshmen Jordan Decatur (61 kg) and Dylan D’Emilio (61 kg) competed as well, combining for an 8-4 record with four tech falls and a pin.
