Fourth-quarter TD off blocked punt helped Ohio State rally for 18-15 win in Ann Arbor
Nov. 17, 1979 – Ohio State locked up an unbeaten season, an undisputed Big Ten title and a trip to the Rose Bowl by defeating Michigan 18-15 in Ann Arbor.
With Michigan leading, 15-12, in the fourth quarter, Ohio State’s Jim Laughlin blocked a Brian Virgil punt on the Michigan 20-yard line and Buckeye Todd Bell scooped up the ball and raced into the endzone untouched.
It was a typical Michigan-Ohio State game – tense, hard-hitting, full of surprises. The lead changed five times as Ohio State outgained the Wolverines, 432 yards to 298.
