Five Buckeyes to Compete at FINA World Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – A quintet of current and former Buckeyes are heading to Australia for the 2022 FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) Dec. 13-18 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.

Hunter Armstrong and Charlie Clark will compete for Team USA, Ruslan Gaziev will represent Canada, Teresa Ivan will swim for Slovakia and Kristen Romano will compete on Team Puerto Rico.

This is the second consecutive year on Team USA for both Armstrong and Clark. Both competed at the FINA World Cup in November; Clark medaled in the 1500m free with a time of 14:50.44.

Gaziev competed in the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Hungary over the summer; he swam in the 4×100 free relay, the 4×100 medley relay and mixed 4×100 free relay.

Ivan swam at the FINA World Cup this November; it was her second straight season competing at the World Cup.

This is the third World Championships for Romano; she also competed for Team Puerto Rico in 2019 and 2021.

Prelims will take place each morning with semifinals and finals during each day’s evening session. Over 1,000 athletes representing more than 180 countries will compete.
