COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State seniors Kayla Fischer and Izzy Rodriguez have both been named to the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Team this week. Both players landed on the second team.
Fischer also earned first team honors in 2020. She led the team this year with 19 points on six goals and a team-high seven assists. The Kent, Ohio native was third in the Big Ten this year in shots per match and was seventh with her seven assists. For her career, she is sixth in program history in career shots, 15th with 20 goals and 9th with 17 assists. Rodriguez earns All-Region honors for the third time in her career. She was first team in 2018 and 2020 and now second team in 2021. The Canton, Mich., native was a Senior CLASS Award finalist this season and was on the MAC Hermann Award Preseason Watch List. She played and started 19 of the 20 matches, finishing with two goals, two assists and six points. Both of her goals came off wonderful set-pieces. She scored an Olympico against UCF, bending in a left-footed corner kick in the Buckeyes’ 4-2 victory. She then had a beautiful strike off a free kick at Penn State, providing the only goal in the Buckeyes’ 1-0 win in State College. Rodriguez is a three-time All-Big Ten honoree.
The Buckeyes finished 9-9-2 and made the program’s 15th NCAA Tournament appearance. The team also notched the 300th win in program history earlier this season.
