COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s gymnastics’ junior Elexis Edwards and freshman Tory Vetter have been named Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch, the conference announced Tuesday. Along with the individual honors, the Buckeyes were voted fourth in the preseason poll of conference coaches.
Edwards enters the 2022 campaign having reached career-high scores on bars (9.825) and floor (9.850) during her sophomore season. The native of Richmond, Va. finished first on vault in the team’s victory over Rutgers and tied for first on vault in the tri-meet against Michigan State and Nebraska. She set a team-high mark on vault (9.875) last season.
Vetter is one of five gymnasts making their Buckeye debut this season. Prior to arriving on campus, the Hilliard, Ohio native trained for 12 years for Universal Gymnasts Inc. She is a three-time Ohio state all around champion and finished fourth in the all around at Nationals in 2021.
Ohio State opens the 2022 campaign this week, traveling to meet Arkansas on Friday, Jan. 7. In addition to the five newcomers, the team returns 15 letterwinners to the roster this season. The Buckeyes finished the 2021 season at the NCAA Regional Final, making their first appearance in the Sweet 16 since the NCAA implemented a new regional format in 2019.
