COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State swimming and diving program has a third member making the trip to Budapest for the 2022 FINA World Championships as director of swimming and diving Bill Dorenkott will join USA Swimming as an assistant coach for the event. He will serve as one of five assistant coaches for the United States.

“It is a humbling honor to be chosen to work with Team USA in any capacity,” Dorenkott said. “I could not be more excited to be a part of the staff heading to Budapest. Now the preparation begins. It starts by making sure that our Ohio State athletes are ready to compete on the big stage representing the red, white and blue.”

The 2022 World Championships mark Dorenkott’s fourth time coaching with Team USA on an international trip coaching staff. He was an assistant coach at the 2001 World University Games in Beijing, the 2003 Pan Am Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and the 2007 Japan International Grand Prix in Chiba, Japan. Overall, Dorenkott’s international coaching experience spans four continents.

Last week at the 2022 U.S. International Team Trials, Buckeyes Hunter Armstrong and Charlie Clark earned qualification to this summer’s world championships. Armstrong, who set a world record in the 50 backstroke (23.71) at the trials, qualified for both the 50 and 100 backstroke. Clark will race the 1500 freestyle in Budapest.

The 2022 FINA World Championships will be held June 18-July 3 at the Duna Arena in Budapest, Hungary. The event, being held for the 19th time this year, will feature five out of the six aquatics disciplines: swimming, diving, water polo, open water and artistic swimming. Swimming will be contested June 18-25.
