Cota Heads to Austria This Week with U-21 National Team

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State assistant coach Patrick Cota is heading overseas this week to assist the United States U-21 Men’s National Team.

Cota’s destination is Vienna, Austria. He’ll serve as an assistant coach as the Americans have three games scheduled with Austria. The schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, July 14: USA vs. Austria / 1 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 16: USA vs. Austria / 6 a.m.
  • Sunday, July 17: USA vs. Austria / 6 a.m.

Taking place at Hockey Club Wein, this will be USA’s first outside competition of 2022, following training camp weekends in April and May.

Cota was a member of the U.S. men’s national team for 13 years, from 1999 through 2012. In February of 2011, he was part of the U.S. National Indoor squad that participated at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Indoor World Cup. Two months earlier in a match against Argentina, Cota celebrated his 100th international cap. At the time, Cota was the only current member of the U.S. National Team to have achieved 100 career caps.

Cota has also competed on the U.S. Field Hockey men’s junior national team playing with the U-18 and U-21 squads beginning in 1996. Cota played for the German Club, Rot-Weiss Koln, Germany from 2002-03 and for Club UTS in Australia in 2001.
