COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Department of Athletics will celebrate its 100th year as a department and membership in the Big Ten Conference during the 2012-13 season. As part of the Centennial Celebration launch, the department will host the Centennial Celebration Kickoff May 3 in the Schottenstein Center to honor former student-athletes, coaches and administrators.
The department would like to invite Buckeye fans to attend the kickoff event, which will feature Buckeye legends from many of Ohio State’s 36 varsity sports.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Student Athlete Performance Center, a new facility that will contain state-of-the-art athletic training and strength and conditioning areas, as well as locker rooms and coaches offices.
The program will celebrate four distinct eras in the department’s history:
1912-1937
1937-1962
1962-1987
1987-present
Two to five renowned Buckeyes from each era will serve as guest panelists, engaging with fans about Ohio State’s past 100 years.
