COLUMBUS, Ohio – A record crowd of 13,276 fans piled into St. John Arena to represent the largest wrestling crowd in the venerable facility’s history, nearly twice as many as the previous dual record and over 3,000 more than Day Two of the 2015 Big Ten Championships. The sell-out assembly witnessed three Buckeye bout victories in a 28-9 setback to No. 1 Penn State (11-0, 7-0 B1G). No. 2 Ohio State falls to 9-2 overall and 5-2 in conference duals.

Malik Heinselman, Micah Jordan and Myles Martin were winners in their individual bouts.

Heinselman earned his team-high 20th win overall this season and evened his Big Ten dual ledger to 2-2.  The true freshman from Colorado registered a takedown in all three periods while surrounding no offensive points en route to a 7-4 decision over Devin Schnupp in the evening’s final bout.

Micah Jordan was the first Buckeye to light the scoreboard, posting a 10-8 decision over Jarod Verkleeren at 149 pounds. Jordan improves to 19-1 on the year and 7-0 in B1G duals. He pushed the action throughout the entire scuffle, forcing an abundance of stalling calls and ultimately receiving a stalling point later in the third frame.

Martin unleashed a ‘catch-and-release’ flurry in the 184-pound contest, racking up eight takedowns by the end of his 18-8 major decision over Mason Manville. It represents Martin’s 35th win accompanied by bonus points since the start of his junior season (15 tech falls, 12 major decisions and eight pins).
