Buckeyes Wrap Up Western Invitational

Ohio State Results 

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing programs competed at the Western Invitational hosted by Air Force Saturday and Sunday in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Buckeye men were 7-1 over the two days, while the women were 4-3.

Both the men and women notched wins over Incarnate Word, UCSD, North Carolina and NJIT, with the men also defeating Stanford, Air Force and Harvard. Columbia defeated both Buckeye squads and the women also fell to Stanford and Harvard.

Ohio State’s men are now 13-1 on the year, with the women 10-3.

The Buckeye Men at the Western Invitational

• For the men, the epee squad was 7-1, with sabre 6-2 and foil 5-3.
• Miles Weiss led epee with 15 wins, followed by Henry Lange with 12 victories.
• In sabre, Nolan Williams had 15 wins and Roscoe Swartz was second with 10.
• Justin Vogler and Diego Cervantes tied for the lead among the foilists with 12 wins each and Edriss Ndiaye was third with 11.
• All three squads compiled at least 43 bout victories, combining to outscore their opponents, 136-80.

The Buckeye Women at the Western Invitational

• On the women’s side, the epee and sabre squads were both 5-2 and foil was 4-3.
• Montserrat Viveros had eight wins to lead epee and Talia Weiss was second with seven, while three Buckeyes – Karina Dyner, Kelly Feng and Yeva Mazur – each had six victories.
• In sabre, Ele Perrier had a squad-best 12 wins and Julieta Toledo also crossed double digits with 11.
• In foil, freshman Dasha Myroniuk led the squad with 13 victories, Claire Teresa Galavotti had nine and Miranda Freedman recorded eight.
• Each squad had at least 30 combined wins, with a total of 101-79 for the seven duals.

Looking Ahead

The Buckeyes will travel to Philadelphia for the Elite Invitational Nov. 19-20 to wrap up their fall team competition.
