Buckeyes Sweep Event Titles in Season Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team swept the event titles in its season opener at Arkansas on Friday evening in Fayetteville, Ark. Despite the individual victories, the No. 22 Buckeyes fell to the Razorbacks, 195.40-195.025.

“Tonight was a great opening meet,” head coach Meredith Paulicivic said. “We definitely have some work to do, but there some real highlights tonight. We did a good job hanging with the No. 11 team in the nation and an Ohio State gymnast won the individual title in every single event. I’m excited to see where this season leads.”

MEET NOTES

  • The Buckeyes started the evening on bars, recording a team score of 48.175. Colby Miller led the Buckeyes with a first-place score of 9.875, followed by Elexis Edwards with a 9.825 to take third.
  • In the second rotation, Ohio State scored a 48.975 on vault. Edwards took the title with a score of 9.875. Miller and freshman Jenna Hlavach recorded a score of 9.800 to tie for fourth.
  • The Buckeyes recorded another 48.975, this time on floor in the third rotation. In her first collegiate meet, Hlavach scored a 9.875 to tie for first. Claire Galiardi and Edwards followed with a pair of 9.850 routines to tie for second.
  • Ella Hodges secured the Buckeye sweep of the individual titles with a 9.875 on beam. Zoe Schweitzer tied for second with a score of 9.825.
  • Along with Hlavach, freshmen Maddy Pike and Kaitlyn Grimes made their Buckeye debuts on Friday. Pike competed for the Buckeyes on vault (9.675) while Grimes competed on vault (9.725) and bars (9.000).

UP NEXT

Ohio State welcomes Denver to Columbus next weekend for the first home meet of the season. The meet will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Covelli Center.
