Buckeyes Storm Past NKU and Xavier on Opening Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State Men’s Tennis team went 2-0 on opening day with a sweep of Northern Kentucky 4-0 and a 7-0 victory over Xavier. The Buckeyes had three players finish the day with 3-0 performances in their respective matches including Justin Boulais, Alexander Bernard, and Andrew Lutschaunig.

Northern Kentucky Match

Doubles

• The Buckeyes finished victories on courts one (6-3) and three (6-2) while leading on court two (6-2) to clinch the doubles point.
• On court three, Ohio State’s Lutschaunig and Jack Anthrop raced to the finish defeating Northern Kentucky’s Josef Zapletal and Emilio Bravo 6-2 in little time.
• Ohio State’s pair of Boulais and Robert Cash followed right behind with a victory (6-3) over Northern Kentucky’s duo of Bartosz Losiak and Tom Berry.

Singles

• Quick wins by the Buckeye trio of Bernard, Cannon Kingsley, and Lutschaunig proved all Ohio State would need to take the match.
• Redshirt freshman Reece Yakubov played his first team match as a Buckeye, but the match went unfinished with Yakubov leading 6-1, 3-2.

Xavier Match

Doubles

• The pair of Bernard and Boulais dominated on court two with a 6-0 victory in swift fashion.
• The veteran pair of Cash and Kingsley followed quickly behind with a 6-1 victory on court three.

Singles

• Cash and Lutschaunig both flexed their muscles winning in straight sets without surrendering a game.
• James Trotter, Anthrop, Bernard, and Boulais followed the lead with victories in straight sets to give the Buckeyes the 7-0 win.

Up Next

• The Buckeyes will stay home this Thursday for a match against Cleveland State at noon, followed by a 5 p.m. matchup with Toledo.
