COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State field hockey team had a record-breaking afternoon at home today in a 11-0 win against Central Michigan. On a hot and humid afternoon, the Buckeyes set a new record for most goals in a game and recorded their third shutout win on the season. This tops the previous record of 10 set on two previous occasions: in a 1994 game against Louisville and a 2012 matchup with Missouri State. This Buckeyes improve to 4-1 on the season.
Three different players finished with multiple goals, paced by junior captain Nikki Trzaska, who had a hat trick with three goals while adding two assists. Freshman Mackenzie Allessie added two goals and two assists while senior Ester Cloter Alsina also had three goals. Whitney Harris, Maura Hunter and Jessica Hourihane all scored once.
The Buckeyes outshot the Chippewas 29-4. Nineteen of Ohio State’s shots were on goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Aaliyah Hernandez had all three of Ohio State’s shutouts thus far.
