Buckeyes Pass 100 in Wright State Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 4/6 Ohio State Buckeyes (5-0) beat Wright State (1-3) by a 105-52 margin on Wednesday afternoon on faculty/staff appreciation day.

The Buckeyes scored 20 or more points in all four quarters and passed 100 points for the first time this season on a balanced scoring effort with six in double figures, including all five starters. Ohio State had its best shooting day of the season, making 55.7 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from long range.

How it Happened

Ohio State opened scoring with back-to-back layups and used a pair of three-pointers from Taylor Mikesell to take an early 10-3 lead. Mikesell and Taylor Thierry alternated scoring as the lead was 22-10 with less than three minutes remaining in the opening quarter. Hevynne Bristow’s triple gave the Buckeyes the 26-13 advantage after 10 minutes.

Mikulášiková began the second quarter’s scoring with a jumper. Wright State cut the Ohio State lead to 33-22 with seven minutes to play before halftime before a 9-0 Buckeyes run stretched the margin to 20 points at 42-22. OSU strung together eight-unanswered points and scored the final four of the half to take a 58-26 lead into the locker room.

Cotie McMahon scored first in the second half and the Buckeyes scored the first five points. After trading baskets, Ohio State put together a 12-0 run, holding Wright State scoreless for nearly three minutes, to extend the lead to 78-36 with four minutes to play in the quarter. Thierry capped the quarter with two fast-break layups as the Buckeyes held the 85-41 advantage after 30 minutes.

An Ohio State 9-0 run midway through the quarter gave the Buckeyes the 99-45 lead. A pair of free throws from Kaia Henderson capped scoring at 105-52.

  • Ohio State recorded 10+ steals in five-consecutive games for the first time since December 2009.
  • The Buckeyes didn’t commit a turnover in the first half and had a season-low six turnovers.
