Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann, junior forward E.J. Liddell and graduate forward Kyle Young traveled to Indianapolis on Thursday to participate in the Big Ten Media Days. The group bounced around from room to room, meeting with representatives from ESPN, FOX, CBS, NCAA.com, Big Ten, Sirius XM, the Journey and NBA. They also held court, on the court, with writers and photographers in a one-on-one setting. Overall, it was a great day talking Buckeye basketball.

Below are some of the interesting nuggets from Coach Holtmann and the players.

  • Coach Holtmann describes himself as college coaching’s worst golfer
  • Holtman is looking forward to having fans back in the stands at home AND on the road. He said it builds a great environment and thinks the players thrive on that atmosphere both at home and on the road.
  • Coach Holtmann this they have put together the most challenging non-conference that he’s ever had as a head coach.
  • Holtmann would take a blowout win over a buzzer-beating win any day of the week. Way less stress.
  • E.J. Liddell came back to Ohio State because he simply loves being a Buckeye. He wants to be one of the beloved Ohio State players like Aaron Craft and Greg Oden.
  • When asked who is the one player on the team that he wouldn’t want to play one-on-one, coach Holtmann said Meechie Johnson Jr. because of his quick first step.
  • Coach Holtman on Kyle Young: Kyle is a phenomenal young man who has been through a lot. He’s a great player on the court but he also has great perspective off the court. That’s what makes him a great leader for our program.
  • The biggest take away from the Covid year for coach Holtmann: “These players are WAY more than just players. A lot of people see them just on the court. They all went through a lot last year. They are more than just basketball players.
  • Coach thinks E.J. Liddell “has the best smile in college basketball.” – What do you think??
