Buckeyes in Action at Michigan Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The No. 17-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team wrapped up competition at the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich., this weekend. The Buckeyes were joined by host No. 20 Michigan, No. 24 Tennessee and Mississippi at the individual event. Each day consisted of a round of singles and a round of doubles, with teams facing off in a hidden dual format.

Shelly Bereznyak led the Buckeye squad with a perfect 3-0 mark in singles, while Sydni Ratliff picked up two singles victories. The sophomore duo paired up for two doubles wins as well.

Friday
On day one, the Buckeyes took on Tennessee in singles, with Kolie Allen and Shelly Bereznyak posting wins. In doubles, Ohio State recorded two victories. The duos of Allen/Kathleen Jones and Sydni Ratliff/Bereznyak both notched victories against Ole Miss.

Saturday
The Buckeyes swept all three doubles matches vs. the host Wolverines. The tandems of Irina Cantos Siemers/Kolie Allen, Sydni Ratliff/Shelly Bereznyak and Lucia Marzal/Dani Schoenly were all victorious. No. 15-ranked Ratliff, Bereznyak and Marzal posted straight-set wins as the Buckeyes took on Ole Miss Saturday in singles.

Sunday
The Buckeyes picked up three singles wins – from No. 15 Sydni Ratliff, No. 30 Irina Cantos Siemers and Shelly Bereznyak – against Michigan. All three won in three sets, with Cantos Siemers rallying after losing the first set. Ohio State dropped its three doubles matches to Tennessee.

  • The Buckeyes will begin dual match play next weekend, as they host No. 4-ranked Oklahoma at 11 a.m. Sunday.
  • Ohio State will then serve as an ITA Kickoff Weekend site, welcoming Old Dominion, Wake Forest and No. 24 Tennessee Jan. 27-28. Day one features the Buckeyes vs. the Monarchs at 10 a.m., followed by the Demon Deacons vs. the Lady Vols at 1 p.m. Day two, the championship match will be at 4 p.m., followed by the consolation match at 7 p.m. The site winner will advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
  • Admission and parking are free for matches at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
