
Buckeyes Host No. 21 JMU in Ohio Stadium Friday

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse team returns to Columbus to host No. 21 James Madison at 3 p.m. Friday in Ohio Stadium. Admission is free to Friday’s game and all Buckeye women’s lacrosse regular season home games.
The matchup will be streamed by Big Ten Plus and live scoring will be available.
Buckeyes vs. Dukes
- The game Friday will be the first between the Buckeyes and Dukes on the lacrosse field.
- JMU, ranked 21st this week, is 2-2 on the year, starting the season with losses to North Carolina and Virginia Tech at home before topping UConn in a neutral site game in Sparks, Md. Last Saturday, JMU downed High Point in Harrisonburg, Va.
- The Dukes average 10.25 goals a game, allowing 9.5 a contest. Mairead Durkin leads the NCAA with 3.5 caused turnovers per game.
Buckeye This and That
As a team ….
- The Buckeyes are 3-2 this season, with home wins over Robert Morris (17-5) and Marquette (18-11) sandwiched around a midweek road win over Cincinnati (18-9). Last week, Ohio State fell in road games to No. 12 Denver (12-5) and Colorado (13-10).
- Friday will be the first game at Ohio Stadium this year after two home games inside Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
- Ohio State is averaging 13.6 goals a game, allowing 10.0 per contest. The squad has the edge in draw controls (75-63) and ground balls (68-50) against its opponents.
Individually …
- Nicole Ferrara leads the Buckeyes with 11 goals and is second with 15 points. Jamie Lasda has a team-best six assists and 16 points. Lindsay Epstein (8g, 3a) and Clare Johnston (6g, 5a) are tied for third with 11 points each.
- Chloe Johnson leads the squad with 39 draw controls and is seventh nationally with 8.6 per game.
- Jane Cowley and Epstein each have a team-high eight ground balls and six caused turnovers.
- Johnson now has 124 draw controls as a Buckeye, ranking fifth in program history. She is four back of Lauren Cochran (1999-02) in fourth. Johnson has seven-plus draw controls in four of five games this season, including 11 in the season opener, one back of the career-high 12 she had vs. Penn State last season. Since 2016, the Buckeyes’ single-game best is 13, set by Molly Wood twice in 2016.
- Ferrara (10 games, 27g, 7a, 34p) and Lasda (6 games, 11g, 6a, 17p) carry scoring streaks of more than two games into the game Friday.
- In the game at Denver last Friday Ferrara was held to one goal, ending her streak of multiple goal games at eight, which was tied for the fourth-longest in program history.
- Epstein played in her 50th game as a Buckeye – starting all 50 – at Colorado Sunday. Riley Ewing leads the current Buckeyes with 51 career games played.
- Regan Alexander, who earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolades earlier this season, has started the last four games in the cage. She leads the Big Ten and is 14th in the NCAA with 45 saves this year, ranking 17th in save percentage (.517).
Eyes on the Buckeyes
- The Buckeyes are slated for three games on BTN – at No. 8 Michigan April 8 and at home vs. No. 4 Maryland April 17 and No. 14 Rutgers April 28.
- Ohio State also will appear on ESPNU April 23 at No. 20 Johns Hopkins and on ACC Network March 31 at Louisville.
- The Buckeyes’ remaining home games will be streamed through Big Ten Plus, including games vs. Mount Saint Mary’s March 12, Marist March 15 and Penn State March 26.
- A March 9 game at Duquesne will be streamed through ESPN+ and the March 19 game at No. 6 Northwestern will be on B1G+.
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes are in a stretch of three of four games at home. Next Wednesday (March 9) the squad will play at Duquesne before home games vs. Mount Saint Mary’s March 12 and Marist March 15.
- Big Ten play starts the next week with a game at No. 6 Northwestern March 19.
