Buckeyes Head to Cincinnati


COLUMBUS, Ohio – A trio of Buckeyes from the Ohio State women’s tennis team will be in Cincinnati this weekend for the UC/Xavier Invite.

Buckeyes Lina Ali, Kolie Allen and Dani Schoenly will join players from Bellarmine, Cincinnati, Indiana, Miami (Ohio), Northern Kentucky, Purdue and Xavier in the tournament. Matches will be held at UC’s Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center and Xavier’s Jim and Mary Brockhoff Tennis Facility, with play Saturday and Sunday.

ITA Super Regional in Columbus Up Next

  • 22-24, the Buckeyes will host the ITA Midwest Region Super Regional in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
  • The tournament will include both singles and doubles draws, with the singles champions and runner-up and doubles champion advancing to the ITA National Fall Championships.

Irina in Action (Tournament Central)

  • Buckeye junior Irina Cantos Siemers is in Mt. Pleasant, S.C., for the ITA All-American Championships. She is the No. 4 seed in the 32-player bracket.
  • In the Round of 32, Cantos Siemers, ranked seventh, defeated Florida’s No. 64-ranked Marlee Zein, 7-5, 6-2, and in the Round of 16 the Buckeye was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over No. 22 Emma Antonaki of Mississippi State.
  • The quarterfinal round is slated for Friday, where Cantos Siemers will take on Sarah Hamner of South Carolina at 10:30 a.m.

Buckeye This and That

  • Senior Kolie Allen is set to make her fall debut this weekend. Sophomore Lina Ali is 3-4 in singles this year, with freshman Dani Schoenly 2-4.
  • Sophomore Madeline Atway has a team-best 8-2 record and freshmen Shelly Bereznyak and Sydni Ratliff are tied for second with 5-2 marks.
  • Last weekend four Buckeyes were in Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Michigan Invitational. Atway led the Buckeyes with three wins and she and Ali paired up for two doubles victories.
