COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s gymnastics team came up short on Saturday night in its Big Ten matchup with No. 8 Minnesota, 197.400-195.550, at the Covelli Center. The loss puts the Buckeyes at 3-2 (1-2 B1G) on the season while the Golden Gophers improve to 5-1 (3-0 B1G).
The Buckeyes started the meet on vault, where they scored a season-high 49.125 and tied with the Gophers for first place. Sydney Jennings earned a 9.850 to come in second while Olivia Aepli, Danica Abanto and Raina Malas were part of a five-way tie for third with a 9.825.
Ohio State moved on to uneven bars for the second rotation, earning another season high with a score of 49.300. Aepli placed third in the event behind a 9.925. Aepli was also named the team’s MVP for the meet.
The Buckeyes registered a 48.725 on balance beam, a new season high. Jenna Swartzentruber, Morgan Lowe and Alexis Hankins each tallied a 9.775 to share sixth place.
The night concluded on floor exercise where OSU put up a 49.175. Aepli and Claire Gagliardi paced the team and tied for fourth thanks to a 9.875.
Ohio State is back on the road to compete in a B1G matchup against No. 8 Michigan at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9.
