Buckeyes Earn First B1G Road Win of the Season at Illinois

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State women’s gymnastics team earned its first Big Ten road victory of the season Monday, defeating No. 23 Illinois, 196.825-196.600. The Buckeyes improve to 9-1 on the year and 3-1 in conference competition with the win.

Ohio State won the event titles on vault (49.300) and floor (49.400) and tied with the Illini on bars (49.175). Payton Harris earned the individual title on vault (9.950) and Nicole Riccardi won the uneven bars title (9.900).

MEET NOTES

  • The Buckeyes started the day on uneven bars, finishing the rotation with an overall score of 49.175. Riccardi led the team with a 9.900, her third score of at least 9.900 on bars in the last four meets. Colby Miller scored a 9.850 followed by 9.825s from Harris and Elexis Edwards and 9.775s from Tory Vetter and Emma Pritchard.
  • On vault, Harris led the Buckeyes with a career-high 9.950. Sydney Jennings tied for third overall with a score of 9.875. Edwards (9.850), Vetter (9.825), Riccardi (9.800) and Raina Malas (9.750) completed the lineup for the Buckeyes. The team finished the second rotation with a 49.300.
  • Ella Hodges earned her second 9.925 on floor in as many weeks, tying for second overall. Edwards recorded a 9.900 on the day for her fifth consecutive score of at least a 9.900 on floor this season. Claire Gagliardi scored a 9.875, followed by 9.850s from Harris and Vetter and a 9.775 from Savannah Gonzalez.
  • The team closed the night on beam, with Hodges tying for first overall with another 9.925. She has scored at least a 9.900 on beam in four of Ohio State’s six meets this season. Harris took third overall with a 9.850. She was followed by Vetter (9.750), Jennings (9.750), Pritchard (9.675) and Alexis Hankins (9.625).
  • Harris won the all-around for the second week in a row, scoring a 39.475. Vetter also competed in the all-around, finishing second with a score of 39.200.
