
Buckeyes Drop 4-1 Game at Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. – The No. 5 Ohio State women’s ice hockey team was defeated by the No. 9 Duluth Bulldogs, 4-1 Saturday afternoon. With the loss, Ohio State slips to 17-8-5 (10-6-4 WCHA) and Minnesota Duluth improves to 15-9-4 (10-7-3).
Buckeye Bits
- Lynsey Wallace posted 24 saves in net for the Buckeyes. She is now 4-3-1 on the season.
- Tatum Skaggs notched the lone Buckeye goal of the night. She finished the weekend with a team-high three goals.
- Emma Maltais assisted Skaggs and posted four points on the weekend from one goal and three assists.
Ohio State 1, Minnesota Duluth 4
First Period
Duluth notched the first point of the contest with a short-handed goal by Sydney Brodt. Her score came just 14 seconds after Maggie Flaherty was booked for cross-checking. Ohio State had its chances as the Buckeyes put up 14 shots on goal to Duluth’s eight in the period. Rebecca Freiburger had the best look of the period with a point-blank shoot with under two minutes to play, but Maddie Rooney was there for the stop. Lynsey Wallace made seven saves for the Buckeyes.
Second Period
The Bulldogs scored two goals in the second period to extend the Duluth lead to 3-0 going into the final frame. Ashton Bell scored at the 2:06 mark, just 27 seconds into a Duluth power play while Gabbie Hughes notched a goal with less than three minutes left to play in the period. Ohio State outshot Duluth 19-10 in the middle third.
Third Period
Tatum Skaggs put the Buckeyes on the board and scored her third goal of the weekend just 2:53 into the final period. She was assisted by Emma Maltais on the play. The score held at 3-1 until Hughes scored an empty net goal with 1:57 left in the game. Ohio State outshot the Bulldogs 47-28 in the contest.
