Buckeyes Compete in Elite Invitational


Ohio State Results

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State fencing programs competed in the Elite Invitational hosted by UPenn in the Tse Center in Philadelphia Saturday.

The Buckeye women were 3-2 on the day, with wins over Penn, Cornell and LIU and losses to North Carolina and Princeton. The men were 2-3, downing Air Force and LIU and falling to North Carolina, Princeton and Penn.

On the women’s side, foil was a perfect 5-0 Saturday, epee was 4-1 and sabre was 1-4. Foil led the men’s program with a 4-1 day, while epee was 3-2 and sabre was 1-4.

Five men led the way with seven wins on the day – Justin Vogler, Diego Cervantes and Solin Li in foil, Paul Veltrup in epee and Jack Price in sabre. For the women, Alina Li was first for foil and the women’s team with 10 wins. Dasha Myroniuk was second among the foilists and for the women overall with nine victories on the day. Yeva Mazur paced epee with six wins, followed by Montserrat Viveros and Katrina Dyner with five each. Ele Perrier was first for the epee squad with seven victories.

The Ohio State women wrap up the fall schedule 13-5 as a team and the men are 15-4.

The Buckeyes will return to team action in late January, competing at the St. John’s Duals Jan. 21 in Queens, N.Y., and at the UPenn Invitational Jan. 22 in Philadelphia. The squad will compete at the Northwestern Duals Feb. 4-5 before Ohio State hosts the CCFC Championships Feb. 25-26.
