JUPITER, Fla. – The Ohio state women’s golf team concluded its opening Florida swing on Monday by beating FAU in a stroke play match at Boca Lago Country Club in Baco Raton, Fla. The Buckeyes carded a round of 300 to best the owls by one shot.
Conditions were great for scoring as the teams played under bright sunny skies with temperatures in the upper 60s and very little breeze. Kailie Vongsaga and Lauren Peter led the team with rounds of 73. Aneka Seumanutafa posted a round of 3-over 75 while Skylar Thompson carded a 79, Kristen Jamieson posted an 80 and Alanis Sakuma rounded out the scores within 84.
“I think this weekend was a great way to kick off the season and get back into some sort of normalcy,” assistant coach Stacy Snider said. “Getting a round under our belt on the course where our first tournament will be was very helpful. The golf course requires a lot of placement shots and takes driver out of our hands on many holes. We know what we need to work on for the next few weeks in Columbus to be well prepared for February.”
The Buckeyes also played a match play match against Big Ten rival Northwestern on Friday at the Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter, Fla.
Ohio State will be right back at the Boca Lago Country Club for the first full field tournament of the year, the FAU Paradise Invitational, on Feb. 8-9.
