COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 16 Ohio State returns home to start the final month of the regular season with a pair of home games this week, starting with Iowa on Thursday night. The Buckeyes enter the week 1.5 games out of the top spot in the Big Ten. Tip-off Thursday is set for 8 p.m. ET with Brandon Gaudin and Buckeye Hall of Famer Jim Jackson calling the action on FS1.
- The overall series is tied 82-82 between the two programs and the Buckeyes have outscored Iowa by just 26 points in the 164 meetings.
- Last season, the teams split the two regular season meetings with each team winning on the others home floor.
- In an odd scheduling note: Ohio State played at Iowa and at Maryland in the first week of February last year. This year features the same setup as the Buckeyes host Iowa and Maryland in this first week of February.
- Ohio State remains at No. 16 in both the AP and coaches polls.
- The Buckeyes will play seven of their final 11 regular season games at home where they are a perfect 9-0 this season. The Buckeyes are the only Big Ten team undefeated on their home floor this year.
- Ohio State has had four games this season decided by a bucket in the final seconds and a total of seven games that featured a one-possession lead with less than 20 seconds to play in regulation.
- With his 23-point effort at Minnesota last Thursday, E.J. Liddell became the 60th Buckeye to score 1,000 career points. He is now 53rd all-time in scoring in school history with 1,031 career points.
- Liddell is on a number of mid-season watch lists, including the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25
- Liddell is the only player in the country averaging 19.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.8 assists per game.
- Cedric Russell has provided a spark off the bench in recent games. The Louisiana transfer had just 39 points through the first 15 games but has scored 29 (9.7ppg) over the last three games with seven made three-pointers.
- Malaki Braham is the only other Buckeye averaging in double figures at 10.6. He has had three 20-point games this season, including a team-high 20 points in his first career game at Mackey Arena last Sunday.
- Through the first 14 games of the season, the Buckeyes were averaging nearly 13 turnovers per game. Over the last four, OSU is averaging 7.3 per game including a season-low six in each of the last two.
