COLUMBUS, Ohio – On a busy first day of the FAU Paradise Invitational in south Florida, Ohio State posted rounds of 296 and 294 and currently sits in sixth place in the 13-team field.
Individually, Aneka Seumanutafa led the team with rounds of 70-73 and is in a tie for ninth at 1-under par. She played relatively steady golf given the off and one rainy conditions. She made 27 pars in the 36 holes to go along with four birdies and an eagle.
Sophomore Kristin Jamieson opened with a 79 and then caught fire midway through the second round. She made birdie at the par-4 seventh, aced the 133-yard par-3 eighth and then birdied the par-5 ninth. She also birdied four of her final eight holes to card a career-low 4-under 68. The hole-in-one was the first of her career.
“It was an up-and-down day for us today,” said assistant coach Stacy Snider. “Aneka made a nice eagle to close the morning round and then obviously, Kristin had a great 68 in the afternoon, highlighted by a hole-in-one. It rained in the morning and for the beginning of the second round. So there was a lot going on and it was a good reminder for us of what competitive mode looks like. I think with the 10-month layoff, you really forget how hard it is to compete and post scores. While we did some really good things, there’s definitely some things we need to work on and cut down some of the mistakes. But this was a good start today.”
Sophomore Lauren Peter made three birdies and just two bogeys in her opening round of 1-under 71. She followed with a 77 in the afternoon and is one shot behind Jamieson at 4-over par. Kailie Vongsaga posted a pair of 76s and is tied for 38th at 8-over and Skylar Thompson rounded out the team scoring with two rounds of 79.
South Florida leads the team race at 10-under par while two players are tied atop the player leaderboard at 8-under par.
The Buckeyes will tee off at 8:21 a.m. off the first tee in Tuesday’s final round.
