
Buckeyes No. 4 Seed in NCAA Tournament, Host 1st & 2nd Rounds

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s tennis team will be the No. 4 overall seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament and will host first and second round matches this weekend. The Buckeyes will open against Youngstown State at 1 p.m. in the first round on Friday while Notre Dame and Columbia will play in the other first round match at 10 a.m.
This is the 22nd time the Buckeyes have been selected for the NCAA Championship with every appearance coming under the direction of head coach Ty Tucker. They have an overall record of 58-21 with a pair of runner-up finishes in 2009 and 2018.
Ohio State is hosting opening round matches for the 15th time in the last 16 seasons. The Buckeyes have advanced past the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament 17 times in its previous 21 appearances and has won at least one match in every year but one. Last year, Ohio State won a pair of matches in Winston-Salem to advance to the round of 16.
Youngstown State won its first Horizon League title with an 8-0 record this spring. The Penguins are 15-8 overall on the year. Notre Dame is 16-12 this season and is coming off an opening round ACC Tournament loss to Florida State. Columbia is 14-8 on the year while holding a 4-3 record in Ivy League play. The Lions also came to Columbus for a round of 16 match in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, the last time Ohio State hosted. The Buckeyes won the match 4-1.
Ohio State is 24-3 on the season and is coming off its 18th consecutive appearance in the championship match of the Big Ten Tournament. The Buckeyes won their 15th consecutive Big Ten regular season title with a 7-0 conference record. Six Buckeyes earned All-Big Ten honors, led by Athlete of the Year Cannon Kingsley and Coach of the Year Ty Tucker.
The winners of the first-round matches on Friday will meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday. All matches will take place outside at the Auer Tennis Complex, weather permitting.
