‘Path to the Pros’ Concludes as NFL Selects 29 Big Ten Players in Draft
Following the selection of 29 Big Ten student-athletes during the 2011 National Football League (NFL) draft, the Big Ten Network concludes Path to the Pros with Part 4, at 8 PM ET Thursday. The series finale will feature highlights from the draft and reactions from J.J. Watt (Wisconsin), Quentin Davie (Northwestern), Dane Sanzenbacher (Ohio State), and Stefen Wisniewski (Penn State).
Watt was the Big Ten’s first selection at No. 11 overall by Houston. The first-team All-American and 2010 Lott Trophy winner was one of five Big Ten defensive linemen selected in the opening round.
Four Big Ten student-athletes earned second-round selections, including Wisniewski at No. 16 (48 overall) by Oakland.
Overall, six Big Ten student-athletes from five different schools were selected in the opening round. The Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC were the only conferences to produce at least six first-round selections.
The entire list of conference draftees can be found at BigTenNetwork.com.
‘Diamond Report’ to Recap Busy Weekend Slate
The Big Ten Network will provide live coverage of four softball and three baseball games this weekend, with 14 different teams in action. Weekend play begins Friday evening with the Michigan men taking on Minnesota at 7 PM ET.
Saturday’s coverage opens with a baseball twin bill as Indiana continues its home series against Northwestern at noon ET, with the Penn State-Iowa game to follow at 3 PM ET from Iowa City. Then, the Michigan softball team opens its road series at Minnesota. First pitch is slated for 6 PM ET.
Three softball games highlight Sunday’s schedule, beginning with Michigan State at Ohio State and Penn State taking on Iowa at noon and 2 pm ET, respectively. Weekend coverage concludes at 4 PM ET with Northwestern hosting Indiana.
Big Ten baseball and softball fans can tune in to the Big Ten Diamond Report at 6 PM ET on Sunday for a complete recap of the weekend’s action. Rick Pizzo and Mike Hall join former Iowa pitcher and 1989 MLB first-round pick Cal Eldred and two-time Big Ten Player of the Year Tammy Williams to review the top headlines and preview upcoming matchups around the Big Ten.
Viewers are invited to submit their Big Ten baseball and softball questions for the team of analysts to answer during each episode.

Championship Coverage Continues as Perennial Powers Claim Big Ten Titles
Three perennial Big Ten powers dominated championship Sunday, as the Illinois men’s golf, Northwestern women’s tennis and Ohio State men’s tennis teams defended their conference titles. The Big Ten Network will televise delayed coverage of each event, beginning at 10 AM ET on Saturday, with the Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament from the University of Michigan. The Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament, hosted by Wisconsin, follows at 10 AM ET on Sunday. At noon ET on Sunday, May 22, the network will televise the Big Ten Men’s Golf Championships hosted by Purdue University at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
Top-seeded Ohio State earned its sixth-straight Big Ten Men’s Tennis Tournament title, defeating No. 3 Minnesota, 4-0, to clinch the tournament crown and earn the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
Meanwhile, Northwestern captured its 13th-straight Big Ten Women’s Tennis Tournament title in dramatic fashion, rallying from a 3-0 deficit to upset top-seeded Michigan, 4-3. The second-seeded Wildcats earned the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships with the win.
Illinois compiled a 7-under 281 team score to clinch its third-straight and 10th overall conference title at the Big Ten Men’s Golf Championships. Junior Luke Guthrie became the first Illini to win individual medalist honors since 1999, firing a 2-under 70 in the final round to close the tournament at 1-under.
The network is the home for complete coverage of spring championships in May, televising events in the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s golf, rowing, men’s and women’s tennis and men’s and women’s outdoor track and field. Each of these events will be produced in high definition.
