COLUMBUS, Ohio – Junior goalkeeper Andrea Braendli on Friday was named a finalist for the Hockey Commissioners Association’s Women’s Hockey Goalie of the Year Award. The Women’s Hockey Commissioners Association announced the creation of a new award in the 2020-21 season to recognize the top goaltender in NCAA Division I women’s hockey.
A committee of voters — made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, and media —pared the initial watch list of 21 down to eight finalists. It will ultimately choose the winner, who will be announced in March during the NCAA Frozen Four.
Braendli has started 14 of Ohio State’s 16 games this year and has a .923 save percentage, 1.91 goals-against average, 312 total saves and two shutouts. Earlier this season, she won her 43rd career game to become the winningest goalie in program history. After helping the Buckeyes to a sweep of Minnesota Feb. 6-7, she was named the WCHA’s Goaltender of the Week.
The Buckeyes, ranked No. 3 in this week’s USCHO poll, are off this weekend before returning to action next Saturday-Sunday at the WCHA Final Faceoff in Minneapolis.
