COLUMBUS, Ohio – Nick Feldman and Nic Bouzakis, incoming Ohio State freshmen, will both wrestle for a chance at a bronze medal Wednesday at the 2022 Junior World Championships at Sofia, Bulgaria.

Wrestling at 125kg in the international competition, Feldman defeated Bulgaria’s Georgi Ivanov, a 2022 U20 European silver medalist, in the quarterfinals, 5-1.

In the semifinals, Feldman fell 11-1 to 2021 U17 World champion Amirreza Masoumi Valadi of Iran.

Bouzakis, wrestling in the 61kg bracket, advanced to the quarterfinals following a pair of pins.

Bouzakis won by fall at 1:26 of his first-round battle with Arslan Rakhimov of Uzbekistan and then pinned Abdullah Toprak of Turkey to make the quarters. There, Bouzakis fell short in a back-and-fourth battle with Armin Habibzadehsaroukolaei of Iran, 13-11.

After waiting on the outcome of the semifinal matches, Bouzakis learned he will wrestle for a chance at bronze Wednesday against Mykyta Abramov of the Ukraine in the 61kg repechage.

With Habibzadehsaroukolaei winning in the semifinals, Bouzakis was pulled back in to the 61kg bracket.

Feldman will face Merab Suleimanashvili of Georgia in a bronze medal match.

Buckeye assistant coaches Logan Stieber and J Jaggers also are on hand helping coach Team USA and as personal coaches for both Bouzakis and Feldman.

The freestyle repechage rounds will be held at 4 a.m. ET Wednesday with the medal rounds schedule for 11 a.m.
