COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State already has one of the top recruiting classes in the country and it just got better as Director of Tennis Ty Tucker announced the signing of Justin Boulais for the 2019 class and will start with the program this fall.
“We are very excited to have Justin join the Buckeye family,” said Tucker. “He is an incredible tennis player with a bright future and we look for him to be an All-American and a Scholar-Athlete during his time in the Scarlet and Gray. He is a super aggressive left-hander that understands how to hold serve at a young age and he has been coached very well by his parents. His sister was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2019 for the women’s team here, so Justin has some work to do for bragging rights.”
The Mississauga, Ontario native joins a class that includes blue chip recruits Cannon Kingsley, Robert Cash and JJ Mercer. The 5-11 lefty won the U18 Canadian Nationals single title in 2018 and added a U18 indoor doubles title as well. He advanced to the round of 16 at a pair of Futures events in 2018 and recently reached the round of 16 of the singles draw and the quarterfinals of the doubles draw at the ATP Challenger event in Winnipeg this past week. Thanks to that performance, he has risen to a career-high 545 in the ATP World Rankings.
Boulais claimed three U18 doubles titles in 2017 while winning the singles crown as the U16 National Selection Indoor #1. He was also a member of Canada’s U16 Junior Davis Cup Team.
Boulais sister Isabelle had a tremendous year for the Buckeye women’s team last year as she was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and earned a spot in the NCAA singles championship.
