Alexander Bernard Joins the 2022 Signing Class


COLUMBUS, Ohio – To cap off an already fantastic fall season, Ohio State director of tennis Ty Tucker announced the signing of Alexander Bernard to the 2022 class. The Bonita, Fla., native signed a national letter of intent and will join the program next fall.

“We look for Alex to hit the ground running next fall,” said Tucker. “He is currently playing on the ITF professional circuit and having solid results. Alex has won National junior titles, achieved a Top 10 world junior ranking, and is currently earning ATP points in Mexico. This young man likes to compete and is coming to Ohio State to chase titles.”

Bernard is a three-time ITF singles champion and rose No. 9 in the ITF world junior rankings. He also has a career high ATP singles ranking No. 1366. Bernard reached to the round of 16 at both the Australian Open Juniors and the US Open Juniors. He also boasts a multitude of achievements, including wins at the JA Criciuma, J1 Porto Alegre and J1 Salinas, as well as three more ITF boys 16s clay courts doubles titles. This past summer, he reached the semifinals of the Boys 18s singles and doubles at Kalamazoo.

We couldn’t be more excited to have Alex join the Buckeye tennis program,” said associate head coach Justin Kronauge. “He has been successful every step of his career, and he will make an immediate impact for Ohio State. The coaches can’t wait to get to work with Alex on the court. He joins a very special class that Buckeye Nation will enjoy watching.”

In 2019, Bernard won the Boys 16s at Kalamazoo and advanced to the semifinals two years later in the Boys 18’s singles. Internationally, he represented the United States for the u14 Davis Cup and Junior Davis Cup.

Bernard is the son of John and Leslie Bernard and he has an older brother, and occasional doubles partner, John. John currently competes at Florida State.
