Katie Trace joined the Buckeye coaching staff in June of 2022 following a five-year career as a Buckeye student-athlete. She enters her third season as an assistant coach in 2024-25.
Trace, who hails from Upper Arlington, helped the women’s team to four consecutive Big Ten titles over the last five seasons, with three as a student-athlete (2020, 2021, 2022) and one as a coach (2023). Individually, she earned nine Big Ten medals, including championships as a member of the 800 free relay in 2022 and 400 medley relay in 2021. She was the Buckeyes’ top performer in the 200 butterfly for her ast two seasons and earned eight All-America honors for her career. In 2021, she was an individual Big Ten runner-up in the 400 IM as a part of a one-two Buckeye finish.
“After earning two degrees from Ohio State, becoming a coach here is the opportunity of a lifetime,” Trace said. “The expectation is excellence in all that we do. The people at Ohio State are investing in this mission and are passionate to be successful every day, and our swimming and diving program is no different. I’ve spent five years as a student-athlete being coached by both Bill Dorenkott and Mike Hulme, so I’m excited for the chance to work and learn alongside them in this chapter of my journey at Ohio State. I’m grateful to be able to take advantage of this new role in the program and continue the accomplishments we’ve achieved in recent years.”
