Senior Salute: Lisa Bruno
5/7/2021 6:59:57 AM | Women's Ice Hockey
Lisa Bruno traveled nearly 500 miles from her home in Whitby, Ontario to play hockey and go to school at Ohio State. Four years after the journey began, she’ll graduate on Sunday with her degree in sport industry and also with 131 games on collegiate hockey experience.
An alternate captain for the Buckeyes in 2020-21, she scored three goals and had 23 assists during her career. But beyond the numbers, she was part of a senior class that’s set the Buckeyes on the path to be among the nation’s elite. Twice in her career, Bruno and the Buckeyes played in the Frozen Four. They won the program’s first-ever WCHA Final Faceoff title. They’ve won games against the nation’s top-ranked teams. They’ve become of the nation’s top-ranked teams.
Off the ice, Bruno has excelled in the classroom. She was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2019-20 for having a grade-point average of 3.70 or better and is a three-time OSU Scholar-Athlete and WCHA All-Academic Team member.
She catches up as she reflects on her Ohio State experience and what’s next for her:
What has your Ohio State experience meant to you and what are some of the lessons you’ll take with you long after your hockey career is over?
My experience here at The Ohio State University has allowed for me to grow both on and off the ice. It has given me lifelong friends, unforgettable memories and unlimited stories to look back on. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to wear a Buckeye jersey and understanding that it takes hard work and commitment to be successful both in the moment and in the future.
What are your plans moving forward and how would you like to use your degree?
Post-graduation, I will be moving back home to Canada and have accepted a position as a Technical Recruiter for TEKsystems, this coming August. I have also always had a passion for Interior Design, so I am looking to potentially pursue a certificate in this profession.
What is your favorite Ohio State memory?
My favorite memory as a Buckeye would be winning the WCHA championship in March of 2020. This was an irreplaceable moment for our program, and the job was done by such a special group of girls.
