
No. 11 Buckeyes Set for Matchup vs. No. 17 UConn

The Basics
- The No. 11-ranked Ohio State men’s hockey team hits the road for a non-conference series against No. 17 UConn this weekend.
- The teams will meet at 7:05 p.m. Friday and 4:05 p.m. Saturday in the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.
- The games will be streamed through ESPN+ and on UConn radio Friday. Live statistics will be available for both games.
- Both teams enter the weekend 4-0, the first two squads across NCAA hockey with four wins this season.
- The Buckeyes are coming off a sweep of Wisconsin in Columbus with 3-1 and 4-3 wins. UConn topped Union 4-1 and 4-3 in overtime at home last week.
Buckeye Notes to Know
- The Buckeyes are 4-0-2 all-time vs. UConn, including a sweep in Columbus last year (4-3 OT, 3-0). In Hartford, Ohio State is 1-0-1 vs. the Huskies.
- This is the first time Ohio State has started a season 4-0-0 since the 1983-84 team won its first 13 games. The 2016-17 squad began the season on a seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2).
- Three Buckeyes are Northeast natives – Tate Singleton (West Lebanon, N.H.), Joe Dunlap (Windham, N.H.) and Jake Wise (Reading, Mass). Matt Cassidy (Medford, N.J.), Stephen Halliday (Glenwood, Md.) and Ryan Snowden (Lincoln University, Pa.) are also from the East coast.
- So far this season, 19 Buckeyes have at least one point, with 11 scoring at least one goal and 16 posting at least one assist.
- Freshman Stephen Halliday was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week Tuesday.
The forward and Ottawa Senators draft pick led Ohio State with three assists and four points in the sweep of Wisconsin. In game one, he converted on the power play for his first collegiate goal. In game two, Halliday had three assists, including on the tying and go-ahead goals in the third period. The rookie is tied for first on the team with four assists this season and ranks second with five points. He has a point in each of the last three games. - Travis Treloar leads the Buckeyes with six points this season. He started he year with at least one point in each of the first four games (2g, 4a).
Buckeyes vs. Huskies
- Ohio State is 4-0-2 all-time vs. UConn, with a 1-0-1 record in Hartford.
- In Columbus last year, the Buckeyes rallied for a 4-3 overtime win Oct. 15, 2021 and then posted a 3-0 victory the next night.
- The series in Hartford was Nov. 10-11, 2017, when Ohio State came away with a 5-4 win and 1-1 tie.
- UConn is 4-0 this season and ranked 17th, the highest ranking in program history. The squad opened the year with a road sweep of Vermont (4-1, 3-1) before two wins over Union last weekend at home (4-1, 4-3 OT).
- The squad is allowing 1.5 goals per game and scoring 3.75 a night. The penalty kill is a perfect 14-for-14 and the power play is 4-for-17 (.235).
- Bradley Chase leads the Huskies with five points and shares the goal lead with Nick Capone with three each.

- Ohio State started the year No. 16 in the DCU/USCHO.com preseason poll and was No. 18 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine preseason rankings.
- The squad moved to No. 14 in both polls following a season-opening sweep of Mercyhurst and is now 11th after winning two vs. Wisconsin.
- Ohio State is one of five Big Ten teams in the USCHO Top 20, joining No. 2 Minnesota, No. 6 Michigan, No. 14 Notre Dame and No. 20 Penn State.

- Next up, the Buckeyes will host back-to-back series, taking on Bentley Oct. 20-21 and Minnesota Oct. 28-29 in Value City Arena.
