
Hentschel Repeats as 1-Meter Champ, Buckeyes in First After Day Two of B1G Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14 Ohio State women's swimming and diving team is in first place after the second day of the Big Ten Championships on Thursday. The Buckeyes won four medals overall, which included Lena Hentschel repeating as the one-meter champion.
The night started strong for the Buckeyes, with freshman Mila Nikanorov earning a fourth-place podium finish in the 500 free. She turned in an NCAA B standard time of 4:3743. In the B final, Lucy Malys finished third with an NCAA B cut of 4:40.68 and Mia Rankin finished eighth with an NCAA B cut of 4:44.92.
The Buckeyes had four swimmers in the A final of the 200 IM. Freshman Sienna Angove was the first medalist of the night for Ohio State, winning bronze after touching the wall at 1:55.06, which is an NCAA B cut. This is Angove's first career individual Big Ten medal; she won a relay medal as part of the 800 free relay team on night one of the conference championships. Also, in the A final, Paige Hall (1:55.45) and Krista Marlin (1:55.66) finished fourth and fifth, respectively, and Paige Delma (1:56.2) finished seventh. All of their times are NCAA B cuts. In the B final, Jessica Eden placed eighth with an NCAA B standard time of 1:58.30.
Nyah Funderburke and Rachel Bockrath placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 50 free A final. Funderburke finished in 22.25 and Bockrath turned in a time of 22.27; both are NCAA B cuts. In the B final, Teresa Ivan finished second with an NCAA B cut of 22.07 and Erin Little finished fourth with an NCAA B cut of 22.35. Delia Lloyd placed third in the C final; she finished in an NCAA B standard time of 22.38.
The one-meter dive was up next, and the Buckeyes dominated. Hentschel led through almost all six rounds, claiming her second straight Big Ten one-meter title with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 328.75. Paola Pineda Vazquez won the silver medal with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 320.35. Michelle Mazzara competed in the consolation final, and she finished seventh with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 273.30.
The Buckeyes closed the night with a bronze medal in the 200 free relay. The team of Teresa Ivan, Funderburke, Little and Bockrath finished in an automatic NCAA qualifying time of 1:27.67.
The Big Ten Championships at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion continue Feb. 21-22. Prelims will begin at 10:00 a.m. each day and finals will begin at 5:00 p.m.
