Maxime Hervoir played two seasons for the Ohio State Men’s Volleyball team after moving to the United States from France. He made an immediate impact and was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team as Ohio State captured the 2017 NCAA national title in front of the home crowd in St. John Arena. Hervoir then stepped it up a notch individually as a senior in ’18, earning All-America Second Team honors from both the AVCA and Volleyball Magazine.
Below is a first-person update from Maxime himself.
Hi everyone!
It’s been few months since I left Ohio and the United States to play professional volleyball. I’m now back to the country of wine, cheese, and baguettes. I’m currently evolving in the Montpellier Volleyball Université Club, and we are ranked second of the French league which is one of the best leagues in Europe. I’m trying my best to earn some time on the court and to keep improving. Being a professional volleyball player has always been a dream and I feel very lucky today to have the opportunity to live through my passion. The competition is tough in the world of professional sports, but working in this environment is awesome. We have eight games left for the regular season and we are trying to get the best possible ranking to go into the play-offs with confidence.
My experience with Ohio State was incredible and I miss the school and my friends every day. Sport culture is something extremely important in the United States and it’s something I really enjoyed while being there. The NCAA and schools like OSU are contributing a lot to promote all kinds of sports, including volleyball. I hope that a professional volleyball league will one day emerge from all this work. I’ll keep playing volleyball as long as I can and I wish that I’ll have the opportunity to play in the U.S. in the future. Until then, I’ll try to visit this summer to see all my friends, my coaches, and my former teammates.
