Preseason National Rankings
Ohio State is ranked No. 3 nationally to start the 2019-20 season according to FloWrestling, the official rankings of the Big Ten Network. Eight of 10 individual weight classes have a Buckeye slotted inside the top-20. The nationally-ranked Buckeyes include: No. 19 Malik Heinselman (125 lbs), No. 3 Luke Pletcher (141), No. 5 Sammy Sasso (149), No. 12 Ethan Smith (165), No. 19 Kaleb Romero (174), No. 17 Gavin Hoffman (184), No. 1 Kollin Moore (197) and No. 10 Chase Singletary (HWT).
Black Shirt Trio
Sammy Sasso became the third ‘black shirt’ for Ohio State wrestling, following in the footsteps of co-captains Kollin Moore and Luke Pletcher. Earning the black shirt signifies that one is conducting himself the right way on and off the mat. Only individuals deserving of elite distinction are bestowed a black shirt and earn the privilege of wearing black inside the Jennings Wrestling Facility.
Buckeyes on the Big Stage
Ohio State’s home match vs. Virginia Tech on Nov. 17 kick-starts the Big Ten Conference’s wrestling national television broadcast slate, aired live on BTN at noon ET. The Buckeyes are destined for the national stage six times during the 2019-20 regular season, including a non-conference scuffle with Arizona State shown on Fox Sports 1 (FS1).
