COLUMBUS, Ohio – Steve Miller, a 6-3, 255-pound defensive end from Canton, Ohio and McKinley High School, has signed a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers.
Miller’s signing with the Panthers means that all eight senior starters on Ohio State’s 2014 national championship team will now be in an NFL training camp. Miller joins draft picks Devin Smith (New York Jets), Jeff Heuerman (Denver Broncos), Doran Grant (Pittsburgh Steelers), Michael Bennett (Jacksonville Jaguars) and Evan Spencer (Washington Redskins), and free agent signees Darryl Baldwin (Baltimore Ravens) and Curtis Grant (San Diego Chargers) as Buckeyes on their way to the National Football League.
Miller played in 35 career games as a Buckeye and made 14 starts, including 13 starts as a senior in 2014. He recorded 50 career tackles with 13.5 tackles-for-loss, totaling 54 yards. He had 34 tackles with 6.5 TFLs as a senior.
A four-year letterman, Miller made one of the biggest plays in school history against No. 1 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl, returning a third-quarter interception 41 yards for a touchdown to extend Ohio State’s lead over the Crimson Tide to 34-21.
