Ian Paddock Awarded NWCA All-Academic True Freshman Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

MANHEIM, Pa. – The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its annual Division I NWCA All-Academic True Freshman wrestlers for the 2009-10 wrestling season.
These eight wrestlers, including Ohio State 133-pounder Ian Paddock, boasted many accomplishments this season both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat.
Completing his freshman campaign with 24-14 overall record, including a 13-7 mark in dual action and 4-4 ledger in the Big Ten, Paddock competed in his first NCAA championships in March and went 2-2. The Warsaw, N.Y., native finished the season tied for second on the team in major decisions with nine.
In order to be selected, each individual must have completed two full semesters at their institution along with meeting a particular GPA and competition mark.
NCAA Champion, Kyle Dake from Cornell University makes the team after completing a 34-2 record on the season.
Two other NCAA All-Americans join Dake: Tyler Caldwell of the University of Oklahoma and Christopher Quiroga of Purdue University.
“These student-athletes are in one of the biggest transitional years they have faced coming from high school to college, being able to see their success on the mat as individuals and their success in the classroom shows that they are working to achieve lofty goals throughout their college careers,” said NWCA President Brian Smith.
Rounding out the top wrestlers academically were: Daniel Mitchell of American University, Tyler Caldwell of the University of Oklahoma, Eric Chandler UNC-Greensboro, Ryan Mango of Stanford University and Steven Keith (of Harvard University.
