COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State senior guard Taylor Mikesell became the 17th player in program history to be selected in the WNBA Draft on Monday evening (including the expansion draft and player allocation in 1999) when she was selected by the Indiana Fever with the 13th overall pick.
Mikesell spent the past two seasons with the Buckeyes, amassing more than 1,000 points in the scarlet and grey and more than 2,000 points in her collegiate career. Despite playing only two seasons in Columbus, Mikesell holds the program record for free throw percentage (.878), ranks second in three-point percentage (.442), fourth in three-pointers made (230), 10th in three-pointers attempted (520) and 25th in points (1,215).
With the Buckeyes, Mikesell is a two-time WBCA Regional All-America Finalist, two-time All-Big Ten First Team selection, an Ann Meyers Drysdale Award finalist (2022) and top-10 selection (2023) and was named to both the preseason and midseason watch lists for the Naismith Trophy and Wooden Award this season. Mikesell has earned a combined four Big Ten weekly honor roll nods and was also named to the All-Big Ten Preseason Team this season.
In 2022-23, Mikesell’s 116 three-pointers made was the fourth-most in a single season in program history, while her 280 attempts rank fifth. She set the program record for the most three-pointers made in an NCAA Tournament game with seven made triples in the Elite Eight against Virginia Tech. Mikesell’s 619 points ranks 18th among single-season program records. In 2021-22, Mikesell made 114 three-pointers, ranking sixth in program history single-season records (fifth at the time), while her 240 attempts ranks seventh (sixth at the time) and her .475 three-point percentage is second. Both seasons, Mikesell made the second-most three-pointers in the country.
Prior to playing at Ohio State, Mikesell spent her first two seasons at Maryland, winning two Big Ten regular season championships and the 2020 Big Ten Tournament championship. The 2019 Big Ten Freshman of the Year broke the program’s single-season record (men and women) for three-pointers made (95) and earned her spot on the All-Big Ten First Team, All-Big Ten Freshman Team and All-Big Ten Preseason Team. She landed on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list her sophomore season. Mikesell also spent the 2020-21 season at Oregon before making her way to Columbus, helping the Ducks to a Sweet 16 appearance.
