Led by QB Joe Germaine, the fourth-ranked Buckeyes used a dramatic last-minute scoring drive to down No. 2 and unbeaten Arizona State, 20-17, in the 1997 Rose Bowl.
The Big Ten champions for 1996, trailed, 17-14, with less than two minutes to play when Germaine led a 65-yard touchdown drive that covered 12 plays, capped with a five-yard TD toss to David Boston with just 19 ticks remaining on the clock.
