15 Wrestlers Place at Michigan State Open – Ohio State Buckeyes

East Lansing, Mich. – One Ohio State wrestler won his weight class at the Michigan State Open and 14 other wrestlers finished in the top six of their weight classes. No team scores were kept at the tournament.
Peter Rogers (Sr., Sheboygan, Wis.) won all five of his matches on the way to capturing the title at 165 lbs. Rogers knocked off OSU teammates John Clark (Fr., Canton, N.Y.) and Joel Walker (So., Columbus, Ohio) on his march to the championship, but both cameback to have strong finishes. Walker, whose only loss was to Rogers, finished in third place and Clark placed fifth.
Nick Preston (So., Columbus, Ohio), Brian Roskovich (Sr., Bridgeport, Ohio) and Kore Sharpley (Jr., Shaker Heights, Ohio) each finished in second place in their weight classes. Preston wrestled at 197 lbs, Roskovich at 149 lbs and Sharpley at 125 lbs.
Five Buckeyes, including Walker, finished in third place at their season-opening tournament. Donovan True (Sr., Oshkosh, Wis.) lost his opening match, but fought his way through the consolation bracket to win seven matches and claim third place at 184 lbs. He picked up a tournament-high six falls in those seven wins. Also finishing third were Josh Janson (So., Loveland, Ohio) at 157 lbs, Jeff Ratliff (Fr., Marion, Ohio) at 133 lbs and Tommy Rowlands (Fr., Columbus, Ohio) at 197 lbs.
Other Buckeyes who placed were Jesse Leng (Fr., Hinckley, Ohio), fourth at 125, Josh Daugherty (Fr., Huber Heights, Ohio), fifth at 141 lbs, Robert Sessley (Jr., Columbus, Ohio), sixth at 133 lbs, Keaton Anderson (Fr., Pickerington, Ohio), sixth at 141 lbs and Tony Sylvester (Jr., Massillon, Ohio), sixth at 285 lbs.
Anderson and Sessley both lost their last two matches due to injury defaults.
The wrestling team is next in action this Saturday at the Black and Decker in Ithaca, N.Y.
