Women’s Tennis falls to No. 16-ranked Notre Dame (8-1) – Ohio State Buckeyes

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Ohio State, only able to gain one victory in singles, lost to No. 16 ranked Notre Dame 8-1 today in South Bend, Ind. Freshman Michelle Matko (Aurora, Ohio) posted Ohio State’s only win at the No. 3 singles position over Notre Dame’s Marisa Velasco (6-3, 6-3). Matko is now 5-0 in singles for the season. Michelle Dasso and Jennifer Hall paced the Irish to a 3-0 lead with wins over Buckeyes’ Kristy Dascoli (So., Bradenton, Fla.) (6-2, 6-2) and Briana Harris (So., Bradenton, Fla.) (6-4, 6-0).
In doubles, No. 7-ranked Dascoli and Harris dropped their first match of the season to Dasso and Hall at the No. 1 spot with a score of 8-1. Dasso and Hall, ranked 39th in the nation, won five consecutive games from 2-3 to beat Dascoli and Harris. The No. 37-ranked team of Vaughan and Zalinski beat Monica Rincon (Fr., Lapeer, Mich.) (8-4), while Green and Scaringe defeated Claudia Castro (Fr., Onalaska, Wis.) and Laura Maloney (Jr., Barrington, Ill.) (8-3) at the No. 3 spot for the Irish win.
The Buckeyes (3-2) will next compete against No. 2-ranked Duke tomorrow at 3 p.m. in South Bend, Ind.
