Senior Jamie Lewis Tabs MVP Honor At Women’s Basketball Postseason Banquet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio–Senior Jamie Lewis (Oak Hill, Ohio) added more hardware to her trophy case tonight, earning the Most Valuable Player honor at the Ohio State women’s basketball postseason banquet held at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe.
Lewis, averaging 12.8 points per game, boosted her scoring clip to 18.2 in WNIT postseason play, steering the Buckeyes to the 2001 championship crown.
She authored a new chapter in the Ohio State record book, establishing records for career (643), single season (257) and single-game assists (17). The team co-captain also closes her four-year campaign ranked fifth in career steals (206) and 18th in career scoring (1,034).
Lewis’ additional honors this season include Second Team All-Big Ten and MVP of the WNIT and the Great Alaska Shootout.
The Best Defensive Player award went to two players, sophomore forward D’wan Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) and junior guard Tomeka Brown (Columbus, Ohio). The tandem combined efforts to collect 108 steals and 167 defensive rebounds while often receiving the squad’s top defensive assignments.
Sophomore Courtney Coleman (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned the Most Improved Player and Top Rebounder awards. The Buckeyes’ “go-to” player in the low post capped her second campaign as the No. 4 scorer (16.0 ppg) and No. 3 rebounder (8.2 rpg) in Big Ten play, garnering Second Team All-Big Ten laurels. Coleman, one of the leading field goal shooters in the country, paced the Buckeyes with 58 percent (182-of-314 FGs) accuracy.
For the second-consecutive year, Lauren Shenk (Jr., Minster, Ohio) earned the Free Throw Percentage Champion award. Shenk shot 82.4 percent (56-of-68 FTs), including 12 perfect performances at the stripe.
The Phyllis J. Bailey Award, selected by the coaching staff, went to the senior class – members Mandy Stanhope (Chillicothe, Ohio), Courtney Bale (Vista, Calif.), Dana Stearns (Bexley, Ohio), Amber Barnes (Fairfield, Ohio) and Lewis – for its commitment and dedication to the success of the program.
Scholar-Athlete awards were bestowed to freshmen Caity Matter (Bluffton, Ohio) and Emily Haynam (Westerville, Ohio), and Bale, Shenk, Stanhope and Stearns who also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors. Junior Kit Savage (Arkadelphia, Ark.) earned the Most Improved Scholar-Award.
