COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 14/15 Ohio State women’s basketball team hosts No. 5/4 Tennessee in the season opener on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. ET in Value City Arena in the Schottenstein Center. The game will be broadcast live on BTN.
The Buckeyes will be honoring first generation college students, including student-athletes and staff, at Tuesday’s game on national first generation college student day. Fans are encouraged to wear white as the first 2,000 fans will receive a free t-shirt.
- The Buckeyes were selected second by the league’s coaches and third by the media in the preseason Big Ten polls. Senior guards Taylor Mikesell and Jacy Sheldon were selected to the preseason All-Big Ten teams by both the coaches and media as well as the 2023 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s Watch List. Mikesell was also named to the preseason watch list for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award.
- Last season, Ohio State concluded the season with a 25-7 overall record and a 14-4 Big Ten record to capture the regular-season title. The Buckeyes advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 as a six-seed following wins against Missouri State and at third-seeded LSU.
- The Lady Volunteers were selected second by both the SEC coaches and media in the preseason polls in October. Three players were named preseason All-SEC as seniors Jordan Horston and Tamari Key made the first team and senior Rickea Jackson made the second team. All three were first-team selections by the media.
- All three were named to preseason watch lists with Horston up for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award, Key for the Lisa Leslie Award and Jackson for the Cheryl Miller Award. Other preseason award watch list nods went to senior Jasmine Powell for the Nancy Lieberman Award and graduate Jasmine Franklin for the Katrina McClain Award.
- Head Coach Kellie Harper was voted the USA TODAY Sports Network Preseason SEC Coach of the Year.
- Last season, Tennessee finished with a 25-9 overall record and was 11-5 in conference play. The Lady Vols earned a four-seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 following wins against Buffalo and Belmont.
